The National Symphony Orchestra to perform Carmina Burana in gala concert

The National Symphony Orchestra returns with a gala concert on Friday.

The 140 strong ensemble will perform the UAE debut of Carmina Burana in the Abu Dhabi National Theatre.

The famed work by the 20th century German composer Carl Orff will have the orchestra accommodating an adult and youth chorus in addition to guest solo vocalists.

The programme’s first half will feature award winning pianist Ioannis Potamousis taking on Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody on a theme of Paganini Op43, also taking the stage is the Emirati soprano Balqees Al Fathi.

The second half is dedicated to the performance of Carmina Burana.

Written between 1935 and 1936, the piece should excite classical music lovers with the composition home to many popular melodies.

The National Symphony Orchestra performs Carmina Burana at the Abu Dhabi National Theatre on Friday at 7.30pm. General admission tickets are Dh100 while student tickets are Dh75. For more details go to www.timeouttickets.com
