A new documentary is to shed light on the private interests of North Korea's now-deceased Dear Leader Kim Jong-il.
One of the revelations in Australian director Anna Broinowski's film Aim High in Creation is that Jong-il was obsessed with blockbuster movies from the US.
Broinowski first approached officials in North Korea saying she wanted to document the nation's flourishing film industry.
They were so flattered by her interest that they allowed her complete access to top directors, actors and editors.
Broinowski also found out that Kim Jong-il, who died in 2011, was a huge film buff. Such was his love of movies, he built himself an air-conditioned vault beneath his palace where he stored more than 20,000 Hollywood DVDs.
Jong-il also instructed his nation's filmmakers to produce versions of hit US movies, such as Titanic and Gladiator.
It is not known, however, whether Kim Jong-il kept the puppet animation Team America: World Police in his collection, where he would have been able to view a somewhat less than flattering caricature of himself.
