A few weeks back, I visited
Angola
to write about economic development
. Here's a beautiful shot of the
Luanda
skyline that
took from the top of the
Escom
building (currently the tallest). In the foreground is the first of four buildings that will make up the
Intercontinental Hotel
and apartments. On the right, you can see the four-storey colonial era American embassy. An old cemetery is next door. In the distance is the Luanda bay, with the fashionable "ilha" jutting out into the ocean. Most of the residents live on the outskirts in shanty towns, which can't be seen from this vantage. Several Emirati companies are heading down to Luanda to get involved in the building boom (
).
