Loneliness, loss, heartbreak and horror will be the key ingredients at a most intriguingly artsy evening of short films.
Cruel Summer is the first screening event to be hosted by prolific blogger The Culturist – and forebodingly promises to explore “the dark side of summer”.
Hosted at Al Quoz art space thejamjar on Saturday August 13, the themed programme will screen 10 recent shorts, each from the last five years – alongside ice cream, summer drinks and music.
And our host – otherwise known as UAE artist Hind Mezaina – reveals there will be a “small surprise” before the screenings. We’re intrigued.
The concept of the evening, she says, was inspired by Bananarama's 1983 hit Cruel Summer.
Now we’re more intrigued.
The evening kicks off at 7pm and entry is free. For a line-up of the films, location and more info head to the source material here.
