Make your walking trip with your dog a little more challenging this weekend by participating in the Human and K9 Ultimate Challenge.
Human & K9 Challenge have organised a four-hour wadi hike for dog owners at Al Jais in Ras Al Khaimah from 8.30am, on Friday, December 11.
Set out with your pooch on this moderately challenging trek in the scenic outdoors of the Northern Emirates. The challenge is suitable for anyone with a reasonable level of fitness, including those new to hiking. Checkpoints will be set up at regular intervals to ensure the safety of participants.
The RAK Wildlife Project will also give a session on UAE’s nature and wildlife to interested participants.
Residents who do not own a dog can “adopt” one from K9 Friends a day before the event begins.
Food and cold refreshments will be available at base camp, and kiosks selling outdoor equipment and dog food will also be set up on the day.
• The challenge begins at 8am in Ras Al Khaimah. Registration costs Dh250 for one person with one dog; Dh400 for a team of two people and a maximum of two dogs; Dh1,000 for a team of five people with a maximum of five dogs. To register, email info@hk9.ae. Visit www.hk9.ae for details

Torno Subito by Massimo Bottura
When the W Dubai – The Palm hotel opens at the end of this year, one of the highlights will be Massimo Bottura’s new restaurant, Torno Subito, which promises “to take guests on a journey back to 1960s Italy”. It is the three Michelinstarred chef’s first venture in Dubai and should be every bit as ambitious as you would expect from the man whose restaurant in Italy, Osteria Francescana, was crowned number one in this year’s list of the World’s 50 Best Restaurants.
Akira Back Dubai
Another exciting opening at the W Dubai – The Palm hotel is South Korean chef Akira Back’s new restaurant, which will continue to showcase some of the finest Asian food in the world. Back, whose Seoul restaurant, Dosa, won a Michelin star last year, describes his menu as, “an innovative Japanese cuisine prepared with a Korean accent”.
Dinner by Heston Blumenthal
The highly experimental chef, whose dishes are as much about spectacle as taste, opens his first restaurant in Dubai next year. Housed at The Royal Atlantis Resort & Residences, Dinner by Heston Blumenthal will feature contemporary twists on recipes that date back to the 1300s, including goats’ milk cheesecake. Always remember with a Blumenthal dish: nothing is quite as it seems.
