Steven Tyler turns street musician in Helsinki

The American rock star Steven Tyler took over a street musician's self-made instrument consisting of water-filled wine bottles to play on the streets of Helsinki on Saturday, performing Aerosmith's 1973 hit Dream On. Tyler played a glass-bottle xylophone, a creation made of bamboo, rope and about 20 wine bottles, which belongs to the Russian street musician Fedor Grigorev, who regularly performs in the centre of Helsinki. While the veteran rocker seemed to enjoy his performance – he can be heard laughing during it – the Finns were less impressed. The video Tyler posted on Facebook showed only a handful of people stopped to listen to the impromptu show. Reuters

Singer Ray J arrested at Beverly Hills hotel

Police arrested the singer Ray J at a Beverly Hills hotel after they say he became belligerent with staff, kicked out a patrol car window and spat at an officer. A statement from the Beverly Hills Police Department says officers were summoned to the hotel on Friday evening to investigate a report that the 33-year-old singer had inappropriately touched a woman at the bar. Officers found the contact was incidental and the singer agreed to leave. But police say Ray J, whose legal name is William Ray Norwood, then refused to leave, became unruly and used his feet to shatter a patrol car window after being taken into custody. A representative for Ray J declined to comment on the arrest. The charges include vandalism, resisting arrest and battery of a police officer. He is the brother of the singer and actress Brandy Norwood. AP

Simpsons mural heading to the real Springfield

A new mural featuring The Simpsons is heading to Springfield. The real Springfield. The series creator Matt Groening, who grew up in Portland, Oregon, told Smithsonian magazine two years ago he named Springfield after the real town in his home state. The mural, expected to be completed in September, follows several years of talks between the city and The Simpsons producers on commemorating the link between the real and fictitious towns, the city spokesman Niel Laudati told The Register-Guard newspaper. The city will soon search for a muralist to paint the artwork on the side of the Emerald Art Center. In a statement to the newspaper, Groening said he plans to put his stamp of approval on the mural when it's finished. "I plan to sneak up in the middle of the night and sign the mural," he said. "I hope I don't get arrested." A print artist who works for 20th Century Fox Television is completing the original artwork that will serve as the basis for the mural. Laudati said the artwork will depict Homer lounging in a hammock, Bart climbing a tree, Marge painting, and Lisa and Maggie riding a bike. – AP
