She's Out Of My League

Ever since Bo Derek frolicked with Dudley Moore on the beach, lovers and loafers have amused themselves by rating themselves, and members of the opposite sex, on a scale of one to 10. The theory being - though didn't Dudley disprove it right from the off? - that lesser mortals could never aspire to make it with that immaculate creature, the perfect 10. That's certainly Kirk's assumption, and a belief shared by his amiably bovine mates at the airport, where they all work. So when beautiful Molly (Alice Eve) offers him tickets to a hockey game as a means of thanking him for returning her lost phone, he is surprised to find her there too. And even more so when he realises she considers this a date. But that's nothing to the bewilderment his entire family shares, when Kirk brings Molly home to meet them. Surely it can't last - as someone says, it's as if the entire universe is out of whack. It's a silly premise, but a sweet movie. Although it flirts with Knocked Up-style vulgarity, there's a fundamental decency to these characters and Eve and Jay Baruchel share an easy and natural rapport that makes it easy to overlook the movie's rough patches. It's no classic, but an agreeable date movie for a younger audience.
