SRK in new legal battle over son’s gender determination tests
The Bombay High Court has served Shah Rukh Khan and his wife Gauri a fresh legal notice in response to a Public Litigation Interest filed by the social activist Varsha Deshpande. Deshpande has accused the couple of conducting pre-birth tests to determine the gender of their son AbRam, who was born through surrogacy. AbRam is the Khans's third child. The activist earlier filed a petition in a magistrate court, which had refused to entertain any legal action. – IANS
Jazz great Jim Hall dies at 83
Jim Hall, one of the leading jazz guitarists of the modern era, whose subtle technique, lyrical sound and introspective approach strongly influenced younger proteges such as Pat Metheny and Bill Frisell, died on Tuesday at age 83. Hall died in his sleep after a short illness at his Greenwich Village apartment in Manhattan, said Jane Hall, his wife of 48 years, who described her husband as "truly beloved by everybody who ever met him". Hall, who led his own trio since the mid-1960s, remained active until shortly before his death. Last month, his trio performed a concert at Jazz at Lincoln Center's The Allen Room with the guest guitarists John Abercrombie and Peter Bernstein. He had been planning to tour Japan in January with the bassist Ron Carter, a longtime partner. In 2004, Hall became the first of the modern jazz guitarists to be named a National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master, the nation's highest jazz honour. – AP
Katrina Kaif: no plans to marry anytime soon
Reacting to the recent appearance of Kareena and Ranbir Kapoor on the television talk show Koffee with Karan, Katrina Kaif said she had "no plans to get married to anyone for the next 20 to 30 years". On the show, Kareena and Ranbir talked about hanging out with each other's partners, Saif Ali Khan and Kaif. "Kareena and Ranbir are cousins so they pull each other's legs. There is no such thing like that. They said it as a joke. I don't think they were serious." – IANS
A baby boy for Kate Winslet
Kate Winslet and husband Ned Rocknroll have welcomed their first child together, a baby boy. The child, Winslet's third, was born on Saturday in Britain, the actress' representative confirmed to People magazine. The couple, who got married last December, announced the pregnancy in June. Winslet has a 13-year-old daughter, Mia, with her first husband Jim Threapleton and a 9-year-old son, Joe, with her second husband Sam Mendes. – IANS
Lea Michele’s debut album out in March
Thanks to her role on Fox's Glee, Lea Michele is no stranger to recording music. Now she's ready to launch her solo music career. The 27-year-old will release her debut album Louder on March 4. In a press release, Michele says the album is a reflection of her "experiences over this past year" and her "journey as an artist up to this point". The first single, Cannonball, written by Sia, is available for download. On Glee, Michele plays Rachel Berry, a college student in New York City who dreams of becoming a famous Broadway star. – AP

Anxiety and work stress major factors
Anxiety, work stress and social isolation are all factors in the recogised rise in mental health problems.
A study UAE Ministry of Health researchers published in the summer also cited struggles with weight and illnesses as major contributors.
Its authors analysed a dozen separate UAE studies between 2007 and 2017. Prevalence was often higher in university students, women and in people on low incomes.
One showed 28 per cent of female students at a Dubai university reported symptoms linked to depression. Another in Al Ain found 22.2 per cent of students had depressive symptoms - five times the global average.
It said the country has made strides to address mental health problems but said: “Our review highlights the overall prevalence of depressive symptoms and depression, which may long have been overlooked."
Prof Samir Al Adawi, of the department of behavioural medicine at Sultan Qaboos University in Oman, who was not involved in the study but is a recognised expert in the Gulf, said how mental health is discussed varies significantly between cultures and nationalities.
“The problem we have in the Gulf is the cross-cultural differences and how people articulate emotional distress," said Prof Al Adawi.
“Someone will say that I have physical complaints rather than emotional complaints. This is the major problem with any discussion around depression."

As long as you deal with bees gently, you will be safe, says Mohammed Al Najeh, who has worked with bees since he was a boy.
“The biggest mistake people make is they panic when they see a bee. They are small but smart creatures. If you move your hand quickly to hit the bees, this is an aggressive action and bees will defend themselves. They can sense the adrenalin in our body. But if we are calm, they are move away.”
