Seth Meyers to replace Jimmy Fallon

Seth Meyers is getting his own late-night show on the US network NBC. The 12-year Saturday Night Live cast member will replace Jimmy Fallon on the Late Night Show next year. Fallon is moving up an hour as Jay Leno's replacement on The Tonight Show next year. Meyers, 39, has been the head writer at SNL for eight seasons. "12.30 on NBC has long been incredible real estate. I hope I can do it justice," Meyers said. – AP

Caro Emerald scores first UK No 1

The Dutch jazz singer Caro Emerald scored her first British No 1 album with The Shocking Miss Emerald after a close battle with last week's chart-toppers, the London drum and bass quartet Rudimental and their album Home. The British actor Hugh Laurie, best known for his role in the TV series House, was new at number three with his blues album Didn't it Rain. Michael Bublé's To Be Loved dropped to fourth, with Alison Moyet's The Minutes in fifth. In the singles charts, Daft Punk held on to the top spot for a third week with Get Lucky, well ahead of the New York-based DJ Chris Malinchak, who debuted in second place with So Good to Me. – Reuters

French award for Bob Dylan embroiled in controversy

A proposal to make Bob Dylan a member of France's Legion d'Honneur ran into further opposition on Sunday as the country's far right weighed into a controversy over whether the singer is a suitable recipient. The culture minister Aurelie Filippetti, an avowed Dylan fan, still hopes to honour the singer, despite opposition from the committee that oversees the allocation of the award. The satirical weekly Le Canard Enchainé revealed last week that the committee had concluded that Dylan's pacifist politics and his drug use made him an unsuitable candidate, a view endorsed by the Front National leader Marine Le Pen. "The Legion d'Honneur should not be handed out to any old person," Le Pen declared. "The president's chef, the hairdresser of Carla Bruni and the favourite singers of Mme Filippetti ... that's not what the Legion is about. I like Bob Dylan a lot but one mustn't exaggerate!" Filippetti, however, is sticking to her guns. "Something will be sorted out," she said. – AFP

Whishaw and Girls win British TV awards

Ben Whishaw was named Best Actor at the British Academy Television Awards on Sunday. Whishaw, 32, won the award for playing Richard II in a TV film by the BBC. The award for Best Actress went to Sheridan Smith for Mrs Biggs. The biggest winner of the night was the BBC comedy Twenty Twelve, about organisers of the 2012 Olympics, which won Best Situation Comedy and Best Female in a Comedy for Olivia Colman. HBO's Girls won the international award, beating the Danish crime drama The Bridge, Homeland and Game of Thrones. The latter was the public's favourite, winning the Radio Times Audience Award. – Reuters
