On the market: two-bedroom apartment in Bur Dubai

Dh95,000

Annual rent for a two-bedroom apartment in Bur Dubai

Features The 1,106-square-foot apartment is located in a seven-storey residential building behind BurJuman mall.

Pros The open-plan kitchen and dining areas are large and spacious. The building is located on Bur Dubai's bustling Bank Street, so in addition to being able to walk to BurJuman and do some designer shopping, you can also reach countless roadside shops, cafes and restaurants in the area. Creek Park is also a short distance away.

Cons The finish of this apartment is not of the highest standard.

They say The best of city living.

We say Bur Dubai has its own inimitable charm, and for many, it's a welcome antithesis to the shininess of "New Dubai". If you work in the area, this apartment is a good bet. If not, the traffic will be too much to bear.

Sukuk explained

Sukuk are Sharia-compliant financial certificates issued by governments, corporates and other entities. While as an asset class they resemble conventional bonds, there are some significant differences. As interest is prohibited under Sharia, sukuk must contain an underlying transaction, for example a leaseback agreement, and the income that is paid to investors is generated by the underlying asset. Investors must also be prepared to share in both the profits and losses of an enterprise. Nevertheless, sukuk are similar to conventional bonds in that they provide regular payments, and are considered less risky than equities. Most investors would not buy sukuk directly due to high minimum subscriptions, but invest via funds.
