Superstar singer Mariah Carey’s husband Nick Cannon filed for divorce last week, several months after the pair separated. According to reports on the showbiz website TMZ, Cannon, 34, initiated the proceedings after Carey talked to her lawyers regarding property settlement.

Carey, 45, and Cannon married in the Bahamas on April 8, 2008 after just six weeks of dating. The couple have three-year-old twins – Monroe and Moroccan – but they officially announced their split in April last year.

Earlier this month, Carey signed up to headline the Colosseum at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas, for which she is expected to earn US$30 million for the string of shows. The terms of the divorce settlement do not allow Cannon entitlement to any of the singer’s earnings from her this Las Vegas residency.

Cannon’s social media feeds show that there are no hard feelings from his side. He tweeted: “I will never say anything negative about @MariahCarey. We are forever a family rooted in love. I am always an open book but personal matters are just that personal. So please respect my family and respect the process. I have no problem being painted as the bad guy. I got tough skin. Keep going. I just pray we all can move forward in the new year,” he added.
