Nakheel
conducted a stealth mission last year to transport 5,500 tonnes of coral from an area surrounding the
Dubai Dry Docks
to The World archipelago. The move opened up an area around the docks for development and added a 6,560 square metre scuba attraction to one of Nakheel's signature projects. The operation was kept quiet to ensure its completion, according to Nakheel.
The company said that the operation took place from April to June of 2008 and involved the transportation of 1,129 rocks, which contain 18 species of coral and more than 30 species of fish, sponges, sea-squirts and urchins.
According to Construction Week,
this is a major reason why Nakheel has been relatively quiet for the last six months or so
. From my perspective, there
could
be some wider economic phenomena underway that is having a bigger part to play in this.
