Run-DMC founding member Darryl McDaniels — aka DMC — had some harsh words about the state modern hip-hop when he appeared at a guest at the 2016 Middle East Film and Comic Con.
“Hip hop now is what it is, but it lacks the creativity, the imagination and the inspiration of those originals,” he said. “I’m not talking about Run-DMC even — you have to go way back before Run-DMC to the Afrika Bambaataas, the Kool Hercs, all the DJs, the breakdancers, the graffiti artists and comic-book writers. They created hip-hop.
“Hip-hop now? It does what it does — but it should be about more than just entertainment.”

Nepotism is the name of the game
