Singer-actress Lady Gaga will star as the late English singer Cilla Black in a new biopic about American singer Dionne Warwick, titled Dionne. The film follows the early days of the life of the legendary singer, who will be played by LeToya Luckett, an original member of R&B girl group Destiny's Child. Black, died aged 72 last year and Warwick, 75, said she was pleased that Luckett was channelling her on the big screen. – The National
Aishwarya picks Kuwaiti designer for Cannes red carpet
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan wowed the crowds at the Cannes Film Festival this weekend wearing a gown designed by Ali Younes. The Kuwaiti designer is also a favourite of actress and philanthropist Eva Longoria. She also wore a creation by the designer to the Global Gift Gala at the Dubai International Film Festival last December. Scherzinger pulls out of Cats to return to The X Factor
Former Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger has pulled out of a production of Cats on Broadway to return to The X Factor judging panel. Andrew Lloyd Webber, the show's famous composer is furious, telling The Economist Radio during an interview: "A week before we were due to go into rehearsal for Cats on Broadway, which luckily I'm not producing, she calls me and says she's decided she wants to do X Factor, having agreed everything". – The National
New possible heir to Prince’s fortune
There could be a new heir to Prince's multimillion dollar fortune. The rock star died without a will, meaning that currently his sister and half-siblings are first in line to inherit his estate. But lawyer Michael Padden submitted papers to say that Duane Nelson, Prince's half brother has a granddaughter who could also be eligible to a slice of the fortune. Melissa Rivers wins lawsuit against clinic
Melissa Rivers, daughter of the late actress Joan Rivers has won a malpractice lawsuit against a New York city clinic for a procedure performed on her mother, which led to her death in August 2014. Rivers, who was 81, suffered a loss of oxygen to her brain at the Yorkville Endoscopy, after the centre in Manhattan inserted instruments to examine her throat and vocal cords. The case was settled out of court for an undisclosed sum. – Reuters
Priyanka Chopra injures herself on Baywatch set
Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra, who makes her Hollywood debut with the negative role of Victoria Leeds in Baywatch, has injured herself while shooting the last few scenes and heading back to India.Chopra, who has regularly been sharing photos from the sets and celebratory pictures from the wrap-up party of Baywatch, yesterday posted a photo of an assortment of ointments and burn relief gels on Instagram, captioning it “remedies for work injuries”.
