I love to combine statement lighting pieces that create an impact with subtler light sources, such as dimmable bulbs and candles, to create a more intimate, tranquil and soft ambience, depending on the time of day and mood you wish to create.
Light shouldn’t only be used in a practical or ambient sense – it should create art in your home. I like to experiment with levels of light, to draw the eye from the floor to the ceiling.
One of my favourite pieces in my home is a cage light. I love this concept; it’s a design piece that ties this corner of the room together, and the fact that it gives light is an added value.
Mirrors fill a blank wall and create subtle detail with their reflective properties. This brings the illusion of space into a room. Tied in with correct lighting, the space will be entirely transformed. In addition to this, it’s creating the perfect balance of functional and artistic artificial light. I love hanging pendant lights – they save space on bedside tables and are quite poetic.
