Fans put their best game faces on in Dubai this weekend, as the GirlGamer eSports Festival got under way.

The gaming event, held at Meydan Grandstand, officially kicked off on Wednesday, February 19, bringing together nine of the world’s best all-female gaming teams to compete for a prize pool of $100,000 (Dh367,000).

But it's not only the gamers competing for titles at the festival, with GirlGamer's cosplay tournament taking place on Friday, February 21.

Isabel Cueva, who dressed up as Nergigante from role-playing game 'Monster Hunter World', claimed the top spot, while the Unicorn Sisters, Rosie and Sophie, won the children's round.

GirlGamer 2020 marks the first time the largest festival dedicated to female gamers has come to the emirate.

Following the qualifying stages in Australia, South Korea, Singapore, Spain and Brazil, the world finals will draw to a close in Dubai on Saturday, February 22.

As well as the gaming action and live acts, there are also talks and workshops about eSports and even how to get into the games industry, with special guests including illustrators Naruse Chisato, Des Taylor and Shimadoriru in attendance.

Rap superstar Gucci Mane will round things off with a headline performance on the festival's final night.
