Foo Fighters’s Grohl hurt after fall from stage

  • Arabic

Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl fell off the stage during a concert on Friday in Sweden and apparently broke his right leg – but still continued with the show. Grohl’s representative in the United States confirmed the fall happened while the singer was finishing the concert in Gothenburg. Videos posted on social media show Grohl walking across the stage and appearing to trip and plunge over the edge. “I think I just broke my leg. I think I really broke my leg,” he told the crowd, lying on his back in front of the stage. The rest of the band resumed playing as Grohl was taken away for medical attention. But he was later carried back on stage on a stretcher with his right foot bandaged and continued the concert sitting down or supporting himself on crutches. He told the crowd he wouldn’t leave the stage unless given orders by a doctor to do so. Photos from the concert at the Ullevi stadium show Grohl singing on stage and playing his guitar, while his leg is elevated and bandaged. Later, the Foo Fighters tweeted an X-ray image of what appeared to be a clear fracture in the leg. – AFP

Actor John Stamos arrested in Beverly Hills

Actor John Stamos was arrested on Friday evening on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs in Beverly Hills, the southern California city, police department officials said. The Beverly Hills Police Department said officers stopped Stamos, 51, at about 7.45pm local time after several people called to report a possible drunk driver in the area. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment for a medical condition where he was placed under arrest, police said. The police department did not give further details on Stamos's condition, but said he was issued a citation and released to the care of the hospital. Stamos is best known for his role as Jesse in the 1990s sitcom Full House, where he played opposite Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. – Reuters

Director Chandraprakash Dwivedi's Mohalla Assi, starring Sunny Deol and Sakshi Tanwar, is gearing up for an October or November release this year, confirmed producer Vinay Tiwari. The movie was earlier scheduled to be released in 2012, but was delayed. "Sunny Deol is playing a poor Brahmin who is a Sanskrit teacher. Angelina Jolie joins African Union summit

Appearing at an African Union summit in South Africa on Friday, actress Angelina Jolie, who is also a United Nations special envoy on refugee issues, spoke about rape as a weapon of warfare and asked African representatives to support women's rights. Jolie had been invited to speak on women and conflict. She shared a panel with the African Union Commission chairwoman Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, former British foreign secretary William Hague and other prominent delegates. "Progress is slow, it is uneven, it is fragile and in some parts of the world it is being erased," Jolie said. "Think what it would mean if the 54 nations of the African Union press as one toward full rights and opportunities for women, not just for this great continent but for the world," she said. As co-founders of the Preventing Sexual Violence Initiative, Jolie and Hague met South African rights groups on Thursday to discuss strategies to prevent sexual violence. South Africa has a high rate of rape and violence against women. – AP
