Robin Schulz must have some kind of magic hit-making dust. The German DJ sprinkled an ample portion on Mr Probz's Waves to create one of 2013's biggest dancefloor anthems. He struck gold again with Lily Wood's Prayer in C, a year later – two remixes which have clocked more than 280 million YouTube plays combined.
Oh, and then as if to prove he could do it all on his own, the 27-year-old house decksmith struck out with a self-produced anthem all of this own, with last year's Sun Goes Down.
Last spotted in these parts at Cielo in October, Schulz is back in town to spin at Nasimi Sessions on Thursday, April 16. We took five.
My first musical memory...
My dad, who was a DJ, as well playing music at home.
The moment I realised I’d made it as a professional musician...
That was quiet late. Maybe when I saw my first number in the charts. It’s still a dream which came true for me.
Wikipedia says I owned a club at 20 years old...
And that’s not right. The internet can be crazy! I also read about me that I am the best paid DJ ever now, which is not true as well. I mean, it would be nice, but not true....
If I could steal any DJ’s (virtual) record bag...
It would be Kygo. I love his melodies, and then I could find his new stuff before anybody else.
I first heard of Sun Goes Down featured vocalist Jasmine Thompson on the internet...
Our managements hooked it up and we got connected. Now we see each other quite a lot as we do a lot of TV shows together. She’s a very nice girl and a huge talent. I have no idea why that song touched so many people, maybe because it has a feel-good vibe?
The song I wish I wrote is...
Last Christmas by Wham!, so I would never have to work again, and would and see it in the charts every December.
If I weren’t a DJ...
I would be a astronaut, a Hollywood actor or a pilot.
I’m excited about...
My new album coming out in autumn, and a massive summer ahead playing all the hot places you have to play. But first – Dubai. See you very soon, I am very excited.
