SANTA CLARITA, California // A publicist for actor Paul Walker says the star of the “Fast & Furious” movie series has died in a car crash north of Los Angeles.

Ame Van Iden says Walker, 40, died yesterday afternoon.

A statement on Walker's Facebook page said Walker was a passenger in a friend's car, and that the crash happened while he was attending a charity event.

“We ... are stunned and saddened beyond belief by this news,” the statement said.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s department said that deputies found a car engulfed in flames when they responded to a report of a collision in the community of Valencia. Two people who were found in the car were pronounced dead at the scene.

Walker was working on the latest Fast & Furious movie at the time of his death. He also starred in the suspense drama, Hours, a movie that is set for release this month.

The star was due to arrive in Abu Dhabi with co-star Vin Diesel to begin shooting scenes in the emirate for Fast & Furious 7 next month, with film crews already in the UAE working on the latest chapter of the popular franchise.
