Finn (Mels van der Hoeven) lives with his father (Dean Schuurmans), a carpenter. Both are grieving the loss of Finn’s mother, who died giving birth to Finn on Christmas Eve. Religious symbolism and music act as a source of healing and accompany Finn and his father as they try to rebuild their lives.

The Grump (Antti Litja) is a man who is living in the past. Pretty much everything that's happened since 1953 has ruined his day, and he lets us know about it with hilarious results. Director Dome Karukoski ­(Forbidden Fruit, Heart of a Lion) was included in Variety magazine's 10 directors to watch for list in 2013, and has won a total of 30 nominations at the Finnish National Film Awards, including two wins for Best Director.
