Emirati Women’s Day has prompted people to take to social media to pay tribute to the women in UAE society.

The day, marked this year on August 28, celebrates those women who have shaped and helped to accelerate the Emirates into what it is today.

Here is a round-up of some of the best tweets, videos and Instagram posts making the rounds across social media in their honour.

On Twitter, women posted images of a text message sent by Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood.

The message reads: On Emirati Women’s Day, we thank you for your positive contribution to the building of our cherished nation. This reflects your socio-political maturity and the belief of the wise leadership in your capabilities as an active partner in sustainable development.

Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, chair of the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority and founder and chief executive of the Kalimat Group publishing house, tweeted:

While on Instagram, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan shared a video that praised the hard work and dedication of Emirati women in the workforce.

The video shows that the role of women in Emirati society has always been strong and that these women are part of the strength of the community.

Dubai Airports shared their own video which showed Emirati women could be anything they wanted — regardless of their gender. The two-minute video shines a spotlight on three women who occupy leadership positions within the company.

Editor Aysha A Taram tweeted a throwback photo praising brave grandmothers and resilient mothers:

Emirates Airlines also honoured their female Emirati employees with a video in which their multinational colleagues use just one word to describe them.

From "beautiful" to "leader" to "determined," there's a whole list dedicated to the spirit of Emirati women. Watch the full video below:

This tweeted video from ImageNation Abu Dhabi asks female colleagues what being an Emirati women means to them:

The Mubadala Investment Company also highlighted the importance of women in the UAE by publishing a video featuring the story of mother and daughter, and showing the powerful bond between the two, along with the importance of having strong role model.

The US Embassy in the UAE tweeted about Mariam Al Safar:

And finally, a video uploaded by the UAE embassy in the US showcases the resiliency and hard work of Emirati women. The almost two-and-a-half-minute video features influential women such as weightlifter Khuloud Madani, geneticist Dr Maryam Matar, air force pilot Major Mariam Al Mansouri, artist Fatema Al Mazrouei, and judge Khulood Al Dhaheri.
