DIY drop box for socks

It is one of life’s big questions: where do all those single socks go? If your socks have an uncanny tendency to go their separate ways, you might want to consider making yourself a missing sock holder.

You will need a craft board; the size will depend on how much space you have and how many socks you tend to lose, but we recommend a board that’s around 40 centimetres long. You can decorate this however you like – paint it in bright or subtle colours, leave it bare, varnish it, or cover it in chalk paint so it doubles as a message board. If you are feeling like a bit of word play, you will see plenty of missing sock holders online sporting phrases such as “single and looking”.

Once the design is done, you will need to attach a row of wooden clothes pegs along the bottom of your board. Glue these down securely, making sure they are equally spaced. Once the glue is dry, hang your new sockboard up in your laundry room. Secure single socks to the board using your pegs, where they will be safe (and out of the way) until their pair appears.
