It sounds like something straight out of Roald Dahl's classic children's story Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

But visitors to this weekend’s Meet d3 community cultural happening will have the chance to create their very own flavours of chewing gum.

The experience will be offered at The Gum Factory, a pop-up installation from experimental British culinary exhibitors Sam Bompas and Harry Parr.

It’s one of scores of attractions at the three-day, free-to-enter event, which will inaugurate the new Dubai Design Distract (d3) near Downtown Dubai.

Other draws include displays from leading artists and designers, fashion shows, concept shops and a range of food and drink options on offer.

Perhaps most exciting for the casual visitor is a hip programme of live music, headlined on Thursday (April 2) night by British soul-pop star John Newman, of Love Me Again fame, and Lebanese art-rock quintet Mashrou’ Leila.

There’s also music from 2pm to midnight on Friday and Saturday (April 3-4) from an eclectic range of artists including the likes of Canadian rapper The Narcicyst, Kuwaiti producer Zahed Sultan and Australian street performer Dub FX.

Check Thursdays Arts&Life for a full preview of the music acts playing.
