Aishwarya Rai ignores weight barbs

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan says she's happy with her weight. The actress was at the Cannes Film Festival on Friday night, where she walked the red carpet in an elegant cream-and-gold sari to attend the amfAR Cinema Against Aids auction. Fans were eager to see if the former Miss World was back in shape after giving birth to her daughter Aaradhya last year, but she said she doesn't worry about that. There have been some cruel comments made online about her weight but Rai Bachchan says she simply ignores them. "An actor is in the public eye, there will be opinions," she said. "I'm very thankful to everyone out there who gives me so much love and so much positivity that the negativity doesn't come in here, it just doesn't touch me at all." She laughingly said there's no way she's going on a diet for anyone. "I think in life it's important to be healthy," she explained. "I have always enjoyed my food and I have never been one for strict diets and I'm not taking any recommendations now either!" This is the 10th year that Rai Bachchan has appeared at Cannes as one of l'Oreal's spokesmodels and the 38-year-old actress says she is quite used to posing on the red carpet. "I have never let it define me - it's just a moment to enjoy," she said. She's bracing to get back to work but would happily welcome another child with husband Abhishek Bachchan. "Aaradhya is here and she is my angel. It's just absolutely blissful," she said. "If another child or children are meant to be, then God knows and I'll receive the blessing."  * AP

Raj Kundra: no name for baby yet

After the actress Shilpa Shetty gave birth to a baby boy last week, her husband Raj Kundra has clarified that although many tabloids and gossip sites have referred to their newborn by various names, they actually have yet to decide on one. "People are calling him little Raj, someone is calling him baby K, but we have not given him any name yet," he said, adding that he's sought the help of his mother-in-law Sunanda Shetty. "I have told her to pick an alphabet letter, as she knows about astrology. Whatever letter she gives us, we will decide the name accordingly." * IANS

Aamir Khan lauds child abuse bill

Two weeks after Aamir Khan touched upon the subject of child sex abuse on his new show Satyamev Jayate, the bill targeting offenders finally got a nod in the Indian Parliament on Tuesday. The actor posted on his Facebook page: "Great news! The Lok Sabha [the lower house of the Parliament of India] has passed the Protection of Children Against Sexual Offences Bill today. Unbelievable!" During the episode broadcast on May 12, Khan spoke to victims and their families. "I want to thank the brave survivors who came on the show. You all have done a great service to all of us," Khan wrote. * IANS

Nancy Ajram launches Good Health Arabia

One of the biggest celebrities of the Arab world, Nancy Ajram, graced the launch of Good Health Arabia, the region's first Arabic-language well-being magazine, in Kuwait last week. The Lebanese star appears on the cover of the first issue, where she shares her healthy habits and fitness secrets. Good Health Arabia is available in bookstores and supermarkets.

Fashion week comes to Rajasthan

Jaipur hosted its first major fashion showcase on Thursday to Saturday at Rajasthan Fashion Week, featuring 30 Indian designers, including Vikram Phadnis, Shaahid Amir and Rohit Verma. "We want to revive Rajasthan as the next big fashion hub in the industry," said the organiser Raahul Dhyani. In attendance were Bollywood stars including Vivek Oberoi, Zayed Khan and Riya Sen. * IANS
