The filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali has quashed rumours that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will feature in an "item number" (a raunchy song and dance sequence usually unrelated to the film) for his forthcoming movie Ram Leela. Bachchan has taken a break from Bollywood since her pregnancy in 2010; her last film was Bhansali's drama Guzaarish. "First it was Sonakshi Sinha, then Madhuri Dixit. Now it's Aishwarya. None of the three rumours is true," Bhansali told reporters. A source from Bachchan's camp said: "At the moment [Aishwarya's daughter] Aaradhya is her priority. Yes, Aishwarya is looking at scripts again, and some are very good. But you know what? She gets tempted to go back to work, and then again decides now is not the time. She doesn't want to miss out on a single moment of Aaradhya growing up." – IANS
Miley Cyrus tops UK chart for first time
Miley Cyrus notched up her first No 1 hit in the British singles chart this week with We Can't Stop, the Official Charts Company said. The track was also her first Top 10 single in Britain. Her success ended the Swedish DJ Avicii's three-week spell at the top of the British singles charts with Wake Me Up, which slipped to second place. In the albums chart, the Welsh classical singers Richard and Adam Johnson held on to the No 1 slot for a second week with their debut release The Impossible Dream. – Reuters
Michele dedicates Teen Choice Award to Monteith
Lea Michele made her first public appearance following the death of her co-star and real-life boyfriend Cory Monteith at Sunday's Teen Choice Awards. Monteith, who co-hosted the Teen Choice Awards in 2010, was found dead on July 13 in Vancouver, British Columbia. Michele won Choice TV Actress in a Comedy for her role in Glee and took the stage to tearfully address the audience while wearing a necklace that said "Cory". "I just wanted to be here today to personally thank all of you and tell you how much your love and support has meant to me over these past few weeks," she said. She dedicated the award to Monteith, saying: "For all of you out there who loved and admired Cory as much as I did, I promise that with your love we're gonna get through this together. Shabana Azmi reunites with Kapoor for 24
After starring together in the 1980 film Ek Baar Kaho, the actress Shabana Azmi and the actor Anil Kapoor have reunited for the Indian version of the TV series 24. "I'm working with Anil Kapoor after two decades, but his energy, passion and enthusiasm for his work have only intensified. His spirit is very infectious," the 61-year-old Azmi posted on Twitter. Kapoor will play the role of Jack Bauer (originally played by Kiefer Sutherland) in the series, which is directed by Abhinay Deo and will be broadcast on Colours TV in India and the UAE. – The National staff
Jennifer Lawrence: ‘I always knew I’d be famous’
Jennifer Lawrence says growing up in Kentucky, she always knew she would be famous. The Best Actress Oscar-winner for Silver Linings Playbook tells the September issue of Vogue magazine US that she used to "lie in bed and wonder" about it. "It wasn't a vision. You have this buried understanding: of course," she says. The 22-year-old confesses her childhood was "unhappy" because she was "anxious". Her parents even sent her to a therapist. It was when she was cast in 2007 in the TV series The Bill Engvall Show that her mother realised she no longer needed counselling because acting made her happy.
