Dress your children up as their favourite storybook character and sit them down for a reading session at the Pre-loved Stories and Book Festival, which begins on April 13 at The Mall at World Trade Center Abu Dhabi.

The three-day festival is being held in association with Wanna Read?, the not-for-profit reading initiative by Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan and Al Bayt Al Arabi, school for intensive Arab language courses.

During the festival, children can participate in cosplay shows, puppet making and calligraphy workshops. There will also be reading sessions with Emirati authors through the day.

Starting on Thursday at 6pm, there will be cosplay shows, followed by a reading by Arabic author Nairoz-El Tanbouli.

On the weekend, the mall has organised shadow theatre shows and more book readings until 7pm.

Emirati author Salma Khamis Alrezaiqi will also be hosting a reading session with a question and answer session with visitors afterwards. Vistors will also have the opportunity to donate their old books and pick up new ones at the mall. Proceeds from the books that are sold during the festival will go towards projects by Wanna Read? that organises book readings for young children in UAE hospitals.

Islamophobia definition

A widely accepted definition was made by the All Party Parliamentary Group on British Muslims in 2019: “Islamophobia is rooted in racism and is a type of racism that targets expressions of Muslimness or perceived Muslimness.” It further defines it as “inciting hatred or violence against Muslims”.
