Watch artists create works inside purpose-built cages and groove to live DJ sets tonight at Tiger Translate, an annual event at Zero Gravity Club that celebrates creativity in music, photography, dance and art.
The event began in Singapore in 2005 and is back in Dubai for the fourth time, presenting art demos and a seven-hour DJ line-up, from Kung Foo Panda and the Deep Crates Cartel collective to Beat Box Ray and Bull Funk Zoo – culminating in a headline act by DJs Krafty Kuts and A Skillz.
Murals expert Justin McMahon will use UV paint to create art inspired by “advertising and eastern cultures” within one of the cages. Joining him is Tarsila Schubert, a Brazilian artist who paints to music.
In the second art cage, Filipino artists Emmanuel Manugue and Melancholy will work together on a graffiti mural. Melancholy is a Dubai-based fashion designer by day and street artist by night, who began dabbling in graffiti art in 2006 (he also contributes to the growing art scene in Manila); Manugue is well-known for his cartoon-like characters.
Also on the bill are Paul Bruwer and Fathima Mohiuddin, illustrators who will compete live to produce an original piece of art – the audience will judge the winner, who will receive Dh10,000.
• Tiger Translate will take place at Zero Gravity, Dubai from 6pm to 3am today. Entry is free (21 and above only). Visit www.tigertranslate.com for more details
