Wadjda gets top billing in St Helena
The Saudi film Wadjda is turning up in some surprising places following its release in the US last month. The town of St Helena, in Napa Valley, California, is one of the places where Haifaa Al Mansour's engaging tale of a little girl's quest to own a bicycle is sharing the bill at the tiny Cameo cinema in Main Street with Robert Redford's All Is Lost. Wadjda won the prize for best Arab feature at last year's Dubai International Film Festival. The importance of cultural exchange and the need for greater understanding of the Arab world in small-town America is underlined by the 100-year-old cinema's flyer, which says the film has English subtitles and is "spoken in Saudi Arabian". – Colin Simpson
