Since its inaugural edition in 2007, the festival has been bringing the best in Arab and international film to Abu Dhabi, while showcasing creative talent in UAE and in the region. In 2013, ADFF received more than 2,000 submissions from 102 countries and presented 90 feature films and 70 short films from 51 countries.

Entries are now open for all categories – feature length or short narrative, animation and documentary films). The selected films will play in the following sections:

Narrative Competition — international feature-length fiction films.

Documentary Competition — international non-fiction feature-length films.

New Horizons Competition — international first and second feature-length narrative films.

Short Films Competition — international narrative and documentary short films.

Emirates Film Competition — short films from the UAE and GCC countries.

Showcase — outstanding recent narrative and documentary features, eligible for the Audience Choice Award.

Our World — films that raise awareness of environmental and social related issues.

In addition to the awards given by ADFF official juries, the films will compete also for The Child Protection Award, The FIPRESCI and NETPAC awards.

Films submitted to the festival should have had their first public screening after November 1, 2013, and should not have a public screening in the MENA region before the presentation at ADFF.

ADFF also honours exceptional achievements in film with the Black Pearl Awards with cash prizes that are meant to facilitate future projects from around the world.
