Intricate choreography, catchy choruses and of course, fireworks: Korean pop music took centre stage at the closing ceremony of the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang.

Performances by singer CL and boy band Exo showcased some of the best of K-pop on a world stage.

#Olympics_EXO was a top trending hashtag on Twitter with more than 3.58 million tweets about the band even before the start of their performance.

Chae-rin Lee or CL, a former member of the girl group 2NE1, performed first. She sang I Am The Best (which was a hit with the girl group) as well as her own 2013 smash hit The Baddest Female.

After the Olympic flag was passed on to Beijing (who will host the 2022 Winter Olympics), Exo had the honour of closing out the ceremony with hit numbers which included Growl and Power. The latter became the first K-pop song to be added to the Dubai Fountain's list of melodies back in January.

For fans in the region, this performance offers a sneak peek into what could be expected when Exo comes to town as part of SMTown Live which will take place in Dubai on April 6.
