This weekend, a host of big names were spotted out and about in Dubai.
Egyptian actor and singer Mohamed Ramadan, Moroccan producer RedOne, Nigerian-American actress Yvonne Orji, and model and Bigg Boss runner-up Asim Riaz were among those in the UAE.
Here, we round up what the rich and famous have been up to in the emirate.
Mohamed Ramadan premieres 'Ya Habibi' at Palm Fountain
Ramadan has been spotted frequently in Dubai since September, however, this weekend was a particularly notable appearance, as he arrived to see the Palm Fountain at The Pointe play his popular song, Ya Habibi.
From Fnajeen Restaurant and Cafe, the Egyptian singer watched as the fountain lit up and the water danced in the background behind him.
He was also seen out enjoying Dubai's lively nightlife scene, dining at Bagatelle Dubai and Opa.
Ramadan seems to have checked into the Palazzo Versace Dubai, where he has regularly been posing for poolside photos and posting them on Instagram.
He also paid Saif Ahmad Belhasa's Fame Park a visit last week.
RedOne's celebrity dinner in Dubai
Last week, Ramadan dined at Cipriani Dubai with Moroccan producer and singer RedOne, Dutch fashion designer Laila Aziz, and Emirati MBC anchor Mahira Abdel Aziz.
"A lovely dinner with amazing people," RedOne wrote on Instagram.
Shama Sikander
Indian actress and singer Shama Sikander celebrated Diwali in Dubai.
The Bypass Road star posted a photo of herself poolside at a Dubai hotel and under an elegantly lit arch.
Asim Riaz at the Burj Khalifa
Indian model Riaz is best known for appearing on reality TV show Bigg Boss.
He has been in the UAE for a week, posting photos from the Burj Khalifa and by a pool in Downtown Dubai.
Yvonne Orji's Dubai tour
American-Nigerian actress Yvonne Orji is in Dubai, being shown around by the Visit Dubai Africa team with a jam-packed itinerary.
On her first day in the emirate, she visited the Burj Khalifa, Dubai Aquarium at The Dubai Mall and dined at Ce La Vi Dubai with her parents. Day two was filled with cultural attractions, including visits to the Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Centre for Cultural Understanding, the Gold and Spice Souk and an evening desert safari.
"We kicked it with a falcon, spotted an Arabian oryx, rode camels (also: ate camel meat and drank camel milk – who knew?!), were serenaded by an Emirati band – they messed around and invited me up to sing back-up, and we ended the night sitting in the still of the desert sky," she said of the evening.
She also celebrated her mother's birthday in the UAE, with lunch and a spa treatment at Jumeirah Zabeel Saray, before dinner at Armani Hotel Dubai.
On her fourth day, they checked out the JBR Aqua Fun Water Park and headed to Global Village in the evening.
Carlinhos Maia's desert trip
The Brazilian influencer is also in Dubai, where he was filmed by Belhasa meeting the animals at his Fame Park.
On Maia's Instagram, he has shared photos from Dubai Marina, out in the desert on a camel and in a swimming pool with a Burj Khalifa backdrop.
He seems to have arrived in Dubai after a holiday in the Maldives.

Tips for used car buyers
- Choose cars with GCC specifications
- Get a service history for cars less than five years old
- Don’t go cheap on the inspection
- Check for oil leaks
- Do a Google search on the standard problems for your car model
- Do your due diligence. Get a transfer of ownership done at an official RTA centre
- Check the vehicle’s condition. You don’t want to buy a car that’s a good deal but ends up costing you Dh10,000 in repairs every month

Why it pays to compare
A comparison of sending Dh20,000 from the UAE using two different routes at the same time - the first direct from a UAE bank to a bank in Germany, and the second from the same UAE bank via an online platform to Germany - found key differences in cost and speed. The transfers were both initiated on January 30.
Route 1: bank transfer
The UAE bank charged Dh152.25 for the Dh20,000 transfer. On top of that, their exchange rate margin added a difference of around Dh415, compared with the mid-market rate.
Total cost: Dh567.25 - around 2.9 per cent of the total amount
Total received: €4,670.30
Route 2: online platform
The UAE bank’s charge for sending Dh20,000 to a UK dirham-denominated account was Dh2.10. The exchange rate margin cost was Dh60, plus a Dh12 fee.
Total cost: Dh74.10, around 0.4 per cent of the transaction
Total received: €4,756
The UAE bank transfer was far quicker – around two to three working days, while the online platform took around four to five days, but was considerably cheaper. In the online platform transfer, the funds were also exposed to currency risk during the period it took for them to arrive.

Hidden killer
Sepsis arises when the body tries to fight an infection but damages its own tissue and organs in the process.
The World Health Organisation estimates it affects about 30 million people each year and that about six million die.

Ten tax points to be aware of in 2026
1. Domestic VAT refund amendments: request your refund within five years
If a business does not apply for the refund on time, they lose their credit.
2. E-invoicing in the UAE
Businesses should continue preparing for the implementation of e-invoicing in the UAE, with 2026 a preparation and transition period ahead of phased mandatory adoption.
3. More tax audits
Tax authorities are increasingly using data already available across multiple filings to identify audit risks.
4. More beneficial VAT and excise tax penalty regime
Tax disputes are expected to become more frequent and more structured, with clearer administrative objection and appeal processes. The UAE has adopted a new penalty regime for VAT and excise disputes, which now mirrors the penalty regime for corporate tax.
5. Greater emphasis on statutory audit
There is a greater need for the accuracy of financial statements. The International Financial Reporting Standards standards need to be strictly adhered to and, as a result, the quality of the audits will need to increase.
6. Further transfer pricing enforcement
Transfer pricing enforcement, which refers to the practice of establishing prices for internal transactions between related entities, is expected to broaden in scope. The UAE will shortly open the possibility to negotiate advance pricing agreements, or essentially rulings for transfer pricing purposes.
7. Limited time periods for audits
Recent amendments also introduce a default five-year limitation period for tax audits and assessments, subject to specific statutory exceptions. While the standard audit and assessment period is five years, this may be extended to up to 15 years in cases involving fraud or tax evasion.
8. Pillar 2 implementation
Many multinational groups will begin to feel the practical effect of the Domestic Minimum Top-Up Tax (DMTT), the UAE's implementation of the OECD’s global minimum tax under Pillar 2. While the rules apply for financial years starting on or after January 1, 2025, it is 2026 that marks the transition to an operational phase.
9. Reduced compliance obligations for imported goods and services
Businesses that apply the reverse-charge mechanism for VAT purposes in the UAE may benefit from reduced compliance obligations.
10. Substance and CbC reporting focus
Tax authorities are expected to continue strengthening the enforcement of economic substance and Country-by-Country (CbC) reporting frameworks. In the UAE, these regimes are increasingly being used as risk-assessment tools, providing tax authorities with a comprehensive view of multinational groups’ global footprints and enabling them to assess whether profits are aligned with real economic activity.
