Aretha Franklin tribute to be performed by Mica Paris at Dubai Opera

The singer previously paid homage to Ella Fitzgerald in a UAE performance

Pay your respects to Aretha Franklin, the "Queen of Soul", at a performance in Dubai Opera by British soul singer Mica Paris on November 14.

This will be the second time Paris has paid homage to one of her musical idols, as she also performed a tribute concert to legendary jazz singer Ella Fitzgerald at Dubai Opera back in 2017.

Franklin is arguably best known for her seminal song Respect (1967), but also dropped many beloved tunes during her illustrious career, including Chain of Fools and I Never Loved A Man (The Way I Loved You).

She was one of the best-selling artists of all-time when she died on August 16, 2018 at the age of 76. Through her six-decade-long career, Franklin won 18 Grammys, had 17 Top Ten US chart hits and sold more than 75 million records.

Paris, meanwhile, is one of today's most respected soul singers in the UK, with a backlog of hit singles to her name, as well as a platinum-selling album. She's previously collaborated with the likes of Prince and Jools Holland, and also enjoyed success in theatre in London's West End.

She's a vocal powerhouse, just like Franklin, and will belt out tunes such as Respect, I Say A Little Prayer, Bridge Over Troubled Water and Natural Woman, to name a few.

Jasper Hope, chef executive of Dubai Opera, said: "She has a voice like no other and I cannot wait to welcome her back with her tribute to the legendary Aretha Franklin."

Tickets start from Dh150, with an early bird discount of up to 20 per cent until February 25, from Dubai Opera's ticketing website.
