How old is Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady? What time is the Super Bowl on Sunday? Which team has never won a Super Bowl?
These are just a few of the questions that are causing a surge in searches related to the Super Bowl LV on Google, according to Alphabet, the search engine's parent company.
Indeed, Brady (he's 43), who has already won the Super Bowl six times, is dominating any searches related to American football's biggest tournament of the year in almost every state but two.
Meanwhile, Missouri and Kansas – home to the Kansas City Chiefs, the team Tampa Bay will be facing off against – are both saturated with searches for Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
There's some curiosity about Mahome's age (25), but Google indicates people are also questioning whether or not he is married, as well as how tall he is.
Searches show people who don't necessarily follow American football are demonstrating some basic curiosity, too.
"Buccaneers colours" and "Chiefs colours" are both considered to be breakout searches, according to Google, while there also seems to be some confusion over the Roman numerals used to describe how many Super Bowls there have been (LV, or 54, as of 2021).
"Roman numerals peaks around the Super Bowl each year in the US," Simon Rogers, a data editor for the Google news lab, said.
Although Brady is dominating Super Bowl-related searches in the US, his team, however, is not winning the battle for Google queries overall. The Kansas City Chiefs come out on top in terms of search curiosity, and it wasn't even close. In fact, it was a landslide victory to the Chiefs, except in New England and Tampa Bay's home state of Florida.
Although Covid-19 will largely put a halt to the usual parties held across the US during the Super Bowl weekend, according to the Google search data there still seems to be an uptick of searches for Super Bowl snacks and dinner options.
"Super Bowl food ideas for small groups is a breakout search," wrote Rogers, who also indicated there was a 350 per cent surge in searches for vegan Super Bowl snacks. There was also an 800 per cent spike for searches on "healthy Super Bowl snacks".
The internet search giant has released a map that breaks down Super Bowl food searches on a state by state level.
Sure, there are more traditional items being searched for, such as chicken wings in Michigan, and cheeseburgers in California, but there are also ample searches for wagyu beef in Arkansas, jambalaya in Kentucky and keto egg bites in Montana.
As for the how Google compiled all this data, the company described it as an anonymised and unbiased sample of the "world's largest real-time datasets".
"We take a sample of the trillions of Google searches, because it would otherwise be too large to process quickly. By sampling our data, we can look at a dataset representative of all Google searches, while finding insights that can be processed within minutes of an event happening in the real world," wrote Rogers.
The Super Bowl LV between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Kansas City Chiefs will take place on Sunday, February 7.

Basquiat in Abu Dhabi
One of Basquiat’s paintings, the vibrant Cabra (1981–82), now hangs in Louvre Abu Dhabi temporarily, on loan from the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi.
The latter museum is not open physically, but has assembled a collection and puts together a series of events called Talking Art, such as this discussion, moderated by writer Chaedria LaBouvier.
It's something of a Basquiat season in Abu Dhabi at the moment. Last week, The Radiant Child, a documentary on Basquiat was shown at Manarat Al Saadiyat, and tonight (April 18) the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi is throwing the re-creation of a party tonight, of the legendary Canal Zone party thrown in 1979, which epitomised the collaborative scene of the time. It was at Canal Zone that Basquiat met prominent members of the art world and moved from unknown graffiti artist into someone in the spotlight.
“We’ve invited local resident arists, we’ll have spray cans at the ready,” says curator Maisa Al Qassemi of the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi.

Ten tax points to be aware of in 2026
1. Domestic VAT refund amendments: request your refund within five years
If a business does not apply for the refund on time, they lose their credit.
2. E-invoicing in the UAE
Businesses should continue preparing for the implementation of e-invoicing in the UAE, with 2026 a preparation and transition period ahead of phased mandatory adoption.
3. More tax audits
Tax authorities are increasingly using data already available across multiple filings to identify audit risks.
4. More beneficial VAT and excise tax penalty regime
Tax disputes are expected to become more frequent and more structured, with clearer administrative objection and appeal processes. The UAE has adopted a new penalty regime for VAT and excise disputes, which now mirrors the penalty regime for corporate tax.
5. Greater emphasis on statutory audit
There is a greater need for the accuracy of financial statements. The International Financial Reporting Standards standards need to be strictly adhered to and, as a result, the quality of the audits will need to increase.
6. Further transfer pricing enforcement
Transfer pricing enforcement, which refers to the practice of establishing prices for internal transactions between related entities, is expected to broaden in scope. The UAE will shortly open the possibility to negotiate advance pricing agreements, or essentially rulings for transfer pricing purposes.
7. Limited time periods for audits
Recent amendments also introduce a default five-year limitation period for tax audits and assessments, subject to specific statutory exceptions. While the standard audit and assessment period is five years, this may be extended to up to 15 years in cases involving fraud or tax evasion.
8. Pillar 2 implementation
Many multinational groups will begin to feel the practical effect of the Domestic Minimum Top-Up Tax (DMTT), the UAE's implementation of the OECD’s global minimum tax under Pillar 2. While the rules apply for financial years starting on or after January 1, 2025, it is 2026 that marks the transition to an operational phase.
9. Reduced compliance obligations for imported goods and services
Businesses that apply the reverse-charge mechanism for VAT purposes in the UAE may benefit from reduced compliance obligations.
10. Substance and CbC reporting focus
Tax authorities are expected to continue strengthening the enforcement of economic substance and Country-by-Country (CbC) reporting frameworks. In the UAE, these regimes are increasingly being used as risk-assessment tools, providing tax authorities with a comprehensive view of multinational groups’ global footprints and enabling them to assess whether profits are aligned with real economic activity.
