On his 50th birthday on Monday, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan said he felt “humbled by the love that his fans showered on him”.
In a scene right out of his 2007 blockbuster Om Shanti Om, Shah Rukh Khan stood on a wire mesh-enclosed balcony at his Mumbai villa and blew kisses to his fans. Even before the clock struck midnight, hundreds of people had already begun gathering outside.
“Right now so humbled by the attention and love being given to my birthday. Didn’t ever realise living will be so beautiful. Thanks all,” Khan shared on social media later.
He cut a cake with his family – wife Gauri, sons Aryan and AbRam, and daughter Suhana. “Happy birthday Shah Rukh ... it’s just us tonight,” read a caption under a photograph on Facebook posted by Gauri.
Khan also released the second trailer of his upcoming film Fan, directed by Maneesh Sharma and produced by Yash Raj Films.
The story follows Gaurav, a middle-class man who is in awe of the actor Aryan Khanna. Khan essays a double role, portraying a die-hard fan and a superstar.
“Today, as I turn 50, I turn 25 again – for all the years of love you hav given me, I give u my most heartfelt creation. Gaurav the FAN. U and I are a belief,” he posted on Twitter.
Only a few hours after releasing the teaser, SRK tweeted: “It’s been a few hours and I have received such unconditional love and wishes for my smile, I think it’s time I find new reasons to smile from today.”
Khan is one of the most successful actors in Hindi cinema. His 25-year career is peppered with box-office hits such as Baazigar, Badshah, Karan Arjun, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Dil To Pagal Hai, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Dil Se.., Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Swades, Kal Ho Naa Ho, Happy New Year! and Chennai Express. His next film, the much-awaited romantic drama Dilwale, is due to be released on December 18.
