The Critics Choice Association (CCA) has hosted the first Critics Choice Super Awards, a celebration of the most popular and fan-adored TV shows and film, with a focus on superhero and comic book genres.

Science fiction, fantasy, horror, action and animated productions were also honoured at the awards, which took place on the night of Sunday, January 10.

The inaugural ceremony was hosted by writer-director Kevin Smith and actress Dani Fernandez and held with Covid-19 safety protocols in place.

Amazon's The Boys topped the winners' list with four awards, followed by heart-warming animation Soul and Palm Springs, a modern take on Groundhog Day starring Andy Samberg and Cristin Milioti, which took three awards each.

The Critics Choice Association's 26th Critics' Choice Awards is set to take place on Monday, March 8, with a socially distanced ceremony.

The awards, which is often seen as a precursor to which titles might win at the annual Oscars, celebrate cinematic achievement. Nominations for the 2021 awards are set to be released on Monday, January 18.
