New 'Avengers: Endgame' trailer: here's what we learn from it

Good news: Tony Stark is back on Earth. Bad news: it looks like Thanos is too

It's safe to say the Avengers had a rough time in Avengers: Infinity War, and so fans have been waiting with bated breath to see what happens in Avengers: Endgame. The good news is that a new trailer has landed that gives away more about the revenge plan of the despondent-post-apocalypse Avengers squad. (Well, this trailer is being sold as a 'special look', but it really is just another trailer.)

"If we do this, we'd be going in short-handed," says Mark Ruffalo's Hulk at the very beginning of the clip. Then, Don Cheadle's War Machine replies: "Yeah, because he killed all of our friends."

Touche, fine sir.

What else do we learn?

Well, we hear motivational words from Tony Stark, who we see is no longer floating around space in a pod and is back on Earth ready to lead a squad. "It's not about how much we lost, it's about how much we have left," he says while hugging the love of his life, Pepper Potts.

Other things we gather from the minute-long clip: Captain America trusts Tony Stark - and he seals it with a handshake. Tony Stark is mourning Spider-Man hard: we see him stare longingly at a photo of the young lad.

The key moment in the new video, however, has to be when we see Thanos in a face-to-face showdown with Stark, Cap' America and what looks like Thor (we'd recognise that cape anywhere).

And here's what we learnt from the trailer that came out two weeks ago...

The Russo Brothers, who are directing the film and also directed Infinity War, shared this new trailer on Thursday afternoon:

The compilation shows key moments from the many different Avengers' existences: Thor with his father, Tony Stark learning he has feelings, Captain America dealing with the extraordinary passage of time in his existence, Hawkeye and Black Widow gazing at each other (what about Hulk?!).

We, of course, see moments from the apocalyptic moment at the end of Avengers: Infinity War when all seemed lost. But we then hear a defiant Captain America say: "They keep telling everybody they should move on, some do, but not us."

"Even if there's a small chance, we owe this, to everyone who's not in this room, to try," says Black Widow. Game on, basically.

Captain America, Antman, War Machine, Hawkeye, Black Widow, Iron Man then strut into action, saying "whatever it takes". Interestingly, in this moment the whole team seems to be in a matching grey and burgundy uniform: we don't think we've ever seen the Avengers dressed in unison? It seems tragedy and revenge unite.

Interestingly, we also see Rocket (from Guardians of the Galaxy) atop the shoulder of War Machine, Tony Stark's best friend: we love it when such worlds collide.

Danvers is here

At the very end of the trailer, post logo, a key moment happens: Thor walks up to Captain Marvel, aka Carol Danvers, grabs his hammer, and says: "I like this one".

It's clear she's now truly part of the crew.

This isn't the first Avengers: Endgame trailer to have been released, although it is the first in which we see Carol on board. The first trailer was released in December and saw a lonely Iron Man giving a monologue: "Being adrift in space with zero promise of rescue is more fun than it sounds." Happily, in the new trailer, we see him marching along with the Avengers crew, clearly found.

Is this the last Avengers movie?

Intriguingly Marvel is referring to it as the final movie in this “phase” of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We don’t know exactly what that means, although Chris Evans has made it clear in interviews and on social media that this will be his last film as Captain America.

Avengers: Endgame is released in cinemas worldwide on Friday, April 26, which means we may get it a day early in the UAE, on Thursday, April 25.
