Art Dubai, Dubai Culture & Arts Authority, Delfina Foundation and Tashkeel have revealed the UAE-based artists selected for the fifth edition of A.i.R. Dubai – the annual artists-in-residency programme, whose 2015-16 edition is curated by Yasmina Reggad.

Selected via an open call and jury process, the artists include Montreal-born Palestinian Areej Kaoud (silkscreening, sculpture and conceptual art); artist, designer and curator Moza Almatrooshi, who represented the UAE as curator of WASL, the Guest City Dubai exhibition at Beijing Design Week; and Emirati artist and musician Jumairy (auditory, visual and tactile works).

International talents are London-based, Algeria-born Lydia Ourahmane; and E-studio Luanda, an artist collective, project space and studio complex in Angola’s capital, led by duo Francisco Vidal and Rita Gt.

Almatrooshi, E-studio Luanda, Jumairy, Kaoud and Ourahmane, who were recently in the UAE to commence research with Reggad, will return to Tashkeel in January 2016, to work on new projects that will be exhibited at Art Dubai (March 16-19, 2016). The finished works will be included in the not-for-profit programme of commissions produced for the fair each year. The artists will also take part in workshops, readings, talks and outreach events leading up to Art Week in March 2016.
