They are strikingly simple yet complex all at the same time and no matter which way you look at them, they always yield a different view. Ramin Shirdel is an Iranian artist whose sculptural paintings depict three dimensional poetic words in Farsi in bright colours.
Although only young - he was born in 1981 - Shirdel is already a highly sought after artist and it is the universal appeal of his works that have led him to this platform.
Despite his popularity (his works have been sold in Christie’s and through Ayyam Gallery’s Young Collectors Auction) this is Shirdel’s first solo show outside of Tehran. When captured in one space, the poetic elements of his art really shine through and with words like love, bride, wave and embrace, Shirdel says he is staying close to his roots by choosing calligraphy and poetry to express himself. Yet he is also an architect and this is what gives his work the structural elements and the precisional craftsmenship, which clearly takes hours of work and a lot of patience.
If you are not familiar with his work, don’t simply rely on these pictures. It must be seen in person.
