Today is the first day of Ramadan and we welcome the Holy Month with open arms.

While many of the galleries are closed or on reduced hours over this time, the art world is certainly not slowing down. This week sees the opening of the seventh annual Ramadan Art Bazaar. Hosted by the lovely Sumayyah Al Suwaidi, this is the chance for “the common man” to buy original pieces of art at heavily discounted prices.

This year, some prominent Emirati artists are taking part such as, Jalal Luqman, Mattar Bin Lahej and Khalil Abdulwahid and no item will be sold for more than Dh4000. There will also be plenty of pieces on sale for as little as Dh500.

Hosted in The Space, in Abu Dhabi’s twofour54 community area, the artists taking part are of all nationalities but residing in the UAE, some are professionals and others are emerging.

“This exhibition is for the art lover and the art collector,” says Al Suwaidi. “Both will enjoy and will find artworks that will blow their minds such as installations and furniture pieces along with the traditional artworks.”

* The 7th Ramadan Art Bazaar opens on Thursday at 9.30pm and is open to all. The exhibition will run until 29 July and The Space is open from

9am - 3pm and from 8pm - 11pm.
