Artists Cristiana de Marchi and Monira Al Qadiri address the idea of a nation state in a new exhibition opening in Dubai tonight. Melting the Sky, hosted by 1X1 Art Gallery in Alserkal Avenue looks at blurred lines of terrority in our modern world and man-made borders that shift every day.

De Marchi, who is based in Dubai, presents her work through performance, video, and installations of embroidered objects and tapestries and gives deep attention to the power and influence of words. Al Qadiri, who also has work in the NYUAD exhibition I blogged about last week, explores the relationship between narcissism and masculinity, as well as other dysfunctional gender roles.

* Melting The Sky runs until October 22 at 1x1, Alserkal Avenue. www.1x1artgallery.com
