As the 10th edition of Art Dubai comes to a close, there are so many things that we loved (full story will be coming in Monday’s paper), however, I wanted to say that out of all the art I saw and all the conversations I had, this is one of the best things I found. At the book launch for Diana Al Hadid’s Phantom Limb hosted by New York University Abu Dhabi, I saw this: A Young Person’s Guide to Phantom Limb.
The book, from the university’s education department is excellently put together, with animation drawings of the artist and simple explanations of her work. In my opinion, all artists or institutions should consider making such books - it opens the eyes of children in a whole new way and can breed a new generation of genuine art appreciators.
I hope that of the many people and several children that got to visit Art Dubai this weekend, all took away something new and learnt a different way of seeing the world. In the end, that is what art is all about.
