A handful of galleries from Dubai including Artspace, Alif Gallery, Art Sawa and Jamm will be participating in Art 14 in London, which opens tonight.
The fair, now in its second edition, is a global platform for contemporary art galleries all over the world. It features 180 galleries from 42 different countries and as well as the UAE contingent it also features Janine Rubeiz and Art on 56th from Beirut and Athr Gallery from Jeddah.
Mohammed Kazem, the artist whose solo show represented the UAE at the Venice Biennale last year, will have his works displayed at the Taymour Grahne gallery space from New York and Park Gallery from London will show the work of Hanaa Mallalah, one of Iraq’s leading and most innovative contemporary artists.
Stephanie Dieckvoss the fair director said: "The fair is growing organically so visitors and collectors will have a more comprehensive experience in discovering works of art from around the globe. We continue to have a strong presence from Asia with leading galleries such as Pearl Lam Galleries and Hakgojae Gallery returning. Other newcomers hail from the four corners of the world, including Triumph Gallery from Moscow, Galería Habana from Havana and Omenka Gallery from Lagos.”

Real estate tokenisation project
Dubai launched the pilot phase of its real estate tokenisation project last month.
The initiative focuses on converting real estate assets into digital tokens recorded on blockchain technology and helps in streamlining the process of buying, selling and investing, the Dubai Land Department said.
Dubai’s real estate tokenisation market is projected to reach Dh60 billion ($16.33 billion) by 2033, representing 7 per cent of the emirate’s total property transactions, according to the DLD.
Sole survivors
- Cecelia Crocker was on board Northwest Airlines Flight 255 in 1987 when it crashed in Detroit, killing 154 people, including her parents and brother. The plane had hit a light pole on take off
- George Lamson Jr, from Minnesota, was on a Galaxy Airlines flight that crashed in Reno in 1985, killing 68 people. His entire seat was launched out of the plane
- Bahia Bakari, then 12, survived when a Yemenia Airways flight crashed near the Comoros in 2009, killing 152. She was found clinging to wreckage after floating in the ocean for 13 hours.
- Jim Polehinke was the co-pilot and sole survivor of a 2006 Comair flight that crashed in Lexington, Kentucky, killing 49.

Iftar programme at the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding
Established in 1998, the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding was created with a vision to teach residents about the traditions and customs of the UAE. Its motto is ‘open doors, open minds’. All year-round, visitors can sign up for a traditional Emirati breakfast, lunch or dinner meal, as well as a range of walking tours, including ones to sites such as the Jumeirah Mosque or Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood.
Every year during Ramadan, an iftar programme is rolled out. This allows guests to break their fast with the centre’s presenters, visit a nearby mosque and observe their guides while they pray. These events last for about two hours and are open to the public, or can be booked for a private event.
Until the end of Ramadan, the iftar events take place from 7pm until 9pm, from Saturday to Thursday. Advanced booking is required.
