The arrival of the new autumn/winter collections are always an exciting time, particularly when watching the new season advertising campaigns roll in.
Prada — a personal favourite — never fails to deliver something amazing. Owner and designer Miuccia Prada is known for her highly intellectual approach to fashion and, much like her fashion shows, the brand's campaign images are as unfathomable as they are memorable.
This season is no exception. Calling on the skills of photographer Steven Meisel — best known for his fashion work with Italian Vogue and Lady Gaga, the new campaign features some of the biggest names in modelling, including Lexi Boling, Freja Beha Erichsen, Sasha Pivovarova, Raquel Zimmermann and Stella Tennant, all of whom are shown striding and stomping their way across epic landscapes.
The collection was forged around the notion of “cultural bricolage” and the idea that every stage of history was at Miuccia Prada’s disposal. The result is a fearless sweep through the ages, throwing corsets, brocades, quilting, argyle knits and military coats together in a glorious, eclectic melange. The effect is elegantly aggressive.
Prada has long been regarded as a powerhouse within the fashion universe, and in whose footsteps many others follow. Aside from the complex thinking, her use of colour, and most notably her skill at unexpected combinations is legendary.
