When Pedro Rodríguez Codina set about launching his new T-shirt collection, he didn’t just want an original design, he wanted a story and a T-shirt that came with a message, a meaning and function.
What he came up with was Ilovemypocket — a T-shirt range that saw each tee have its own unique element — you guessed it, the pocket.
The pocket patches are the only pattern on the otherwise plain white shirts. Each has a meaning and a purpose.
The launch design features a pocket made from a ghutra. Codina chose to make it the red and white checkered one so as to be more representative of the region.
As well as being original and fashionable, 10 per cent of the proceeds from T-shirt sales are going straight to charity.
For the launch tee, Codina chose to help The Palestine Children’s Relief Fund (PCRF). More specifically, the money will help children in the Huda Al Masri Pediatric Cancer department receive tutoring while being treated, which allows them to continue their education.
“A T-shirt is a wardrobe staple worn daily without much thought, but the market currently lacks T-shirts and other essentials that have meaning. This is where Ilovemypocket comes in,” says Codina, adding that each T-shirt is made from 100 per cent cotton.
“The concept will not stop in the Middle East, we have plans to expand to different countries, where each T-shirt will feature a pocket with a cultural meaning particular to that country. The same charity rules will apply, with 10 per cent of proceeds going to a charity in that country.”
