To mark the launch of its new spring/summer 2017 footwear collections, Christian Louboutin brought a little piece of Brazil to Dubai.
Amid the palm trees and white sands of Cove Beach Dubai at Jumeirah Beach Hotel, were colourful oil drums, brightly patterned tables and piles of painted fruit (yes, you read that right).
Inspired by a trip to Brazil, which is where most of the collection was designed, the range exudes a decidedly carnival flair. Dominated by uplifting, samba-beat colours of yellow, red and orange, and a Mardi Gras blend of textures and patterns, the focus is very much on fun in the sun.
There’s leopard-print pony skin versus metallic, rainbow-hued watersnake, and cute poppy-print shoes with a deeper toe cleavage than is strictly decent. Never one to stand still (pardon the pun), Louboutin offers 1960s-style sensible block heels, glitter-coated cork-soled wedges, plus the signature stiletto spike. With names such as Girlistrappi (described as the shoe Blake Lively would wear to a pool party), and Who Dances (the dancing version of Who Runs, worn by Beyoncé at her last concert), these are for ladies with music in their toes.
The theme continues in the men’s line, with suede slip-ons in jade and mustard, and basketball boots made with a jaunty blend of blingy crystals and techy sports mesh. Even dress shoes were given a revamp, and come with a ridge, either stitched or space-age moulded, that runs down the toe.
