Yemeni warplanes bomb rebels

SANA'A, YEMEN // Rebels claim Yemeni warplanes have bombed their northern stronghold along the Saudi border for the second day straight, striking a market and killing several people including children. A rebel website said today's assault hit an outdoor market in the town of Hidan, in Saada province, as residents shopped early this morning. Local government officials say there were more attacks overnight targeting the Shiite rebel positions in Saada, where a five-year rebellion against the government has been waged.

Government forces launched the counter-offensive after local officials and rebels claimed they had seized more of Saada from government troops. The government has imposed a state of emergency on Saada with a nightly curfew. * AP
