Israel 'to co-operate with UN flotilla inquiry'

Reports in the Israeli press suggest the government will co-operate with a UN panel set up to examine the deadly raid on a Gaza-bound flotilla in May.

Israel's top ministers decided have decided to co-operate with a UN committee proposed by the UN chief Ban Ki-moon to probe a deadly raid on a Gaza-bound aid flotilla, the Haaretz daily reported on its website. The forum of seven senior ministers decided to give Mr Ban "a positive response, in principle, to allow him to move forward with establishing the panel of inquiry," Haaretz said, without citing a source. An Israeli government spokesman would not immediately comment on the report, but said a statement might be issued later. Mr Ban today announced a four-member panel, including an Israeli and a Turk, would probe the raid on the flotilla. *AFP
