Health of Kuwait Emir continuously improving, prime minister says

PM assures Cabinet of the wellbeing of Sheikh Sabah, who is undergoing treatment in the US since July

Kuwait’s prime minister has assured the country that Sheikh Sabah’s health is “continuously improving” at hospital in the United States.

The official news agency Kuna said on Monday that Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al Khalid Al Sabah “assured the Cabinet of the continuous improvement the health of his majesty the Emir is witnessing”.

It was the second time this month that the prime minister relays news of improvement in the health of  Sheikh Sabah, 91, as he receives treatment in the US.

The monarch is in the US to complete medical treatment after surgery in Kuwait for an unspecified condition on July 19.

The emir was admitted to hospital the previous day for medical checks.

During a Cabinet session on August 3, Sheikh Sabah Al Khalid said he received a call from the deputy head of the national guard reassuring him of the emir's health.

Sheikh Sabah left for the US last month aboard an US Air Force C-17 flying hospital.

The US has not officially said it flew the monarch, but a State Department official said they had “provided assistance to help with the emir’s treatment”, without giving specifics.
