Chris Rampling, the British Ambassador to Lebanon, hosted a reception at the Dar el Nimer Cultural Centre in Beirut on Tuesday to show support for Palestinian refugees in the country.
Palestinian Ambassador Ashraf Dabbour, representatives of Lebanese and Palestinian non-government organisations, academics, researchers and international donors attended the event.
Mr Rampling highlighted the work that the embassy was doing with local and international partners, the Lebanese-Palestinian Dialogue Committee, the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, and many other donors.
Last year, the UK’s Department for International Development provided $84 million (Dh308.5m) in funding to the UN agency.
“Our embassy is proud to work with young Palestinians in Lebanon, supporting marginalised youth in gaining access to increased economic opportunities, and developing solutions to governance, service delivery, improving security for all, and helping the most vulnerable, including people with disabilities,” Mr Rampling said at the event.
He was appointed ambassador to Lebanon in July and took up the role in September.
