BRUSSELS // Belgian authorities have arrested 18 people after a series of police raids smashed an alleged people-smuggling ring in Brussels. Tim De Wolf of the public prosecutor's office said police found more than 200 illegal immigrants yesterday in safehouses throughout the Belgian capital. He said most were young Indian men who were to be smuggled into Britain, including 50 Indian nationals hiding inside a Sikh temple in the suburb of Vilvorde. Mr De Wolf said the arrests were aimed at breaking up a syndicate that had been smuggling Indian citizens into Britain for more than a year.
